Our Approach

What Is Neurodivergent-Inclusive Personal Training?

Neurodivergent-inclusive training goes beyond simply "being kind" — it means designing every aspect of the training environment and coaching process to work with the way your brain is wired, not against it. At Fortify Fitness, our ESSA Accredited Exercise Scientists Matt Elphick and Ryan Coonan have built a service specifically for people who have found mainstream gym environments overwhelming, unpredictable, or simply not set up for how they think, process, and move.

Trainer and client in a calm, supportive gym environment

Whether you identify as autistic, ADHD, dyspraxic, or simply someone who has found traditional personal training environments difficult to navigate, this service is built for you. We don't expect you to fit a standard mould — we adapt the environment, the communication, and the programme to fit you.

Our facility at 2 Mallard Drive, Altona North VIC 3025 is a private, low-stimulus space — far removed from the noise and unpredictability of a commercial gym — where you can build strength, confidence, and healthy movement habits at your own pace.

Every programme is grounded in exercise science and built around your individual goals, strengths, and any sensory or communication preferences you share with us. Nothing is assumed; everything is discussed.

Predictable Routines

Consistent session structure so you always know what to expect. We introduce changes gradually and with clear communication — no surprises, no confusion.

Sensory-Aware Environment

We're mindful of lighting, noise, equipment texture, and the overall sensory experience of training. Sessions are adapted to your individual sensory preferences and thresholds.

Flexible Communication

Whether you prefer direct instructions, visual cues, written session plans, or minimal verbal input during exercise, we adapt our communication style to suit you — not the other way around.

Non-Judgemental Approach

There is no 'right' way to engage with training. We meet you where you are, respect your pace, and create an environment where you feel genuinely safe to show up as yourself.

How It Works

Our Process: Built Around You

Every step of our process is designed to be transparent, low-pressure, and consistent. Here's what working with us looks like from the very first session.

01

Get-to-Know-You Intake

Our initial consultation is genuinely unhurried. We ask about your goals, your history with exercise, any sensory sensitivities or communication preferences, and what has or hasn't worked for you in the past. Nothing is rushed. You set the pace.

02

Objective Baseline Assessment

Where appropriate, we use our AxIT clinical testing system to capture objective strength and movement data. This gives us a reliable, numbers-based starting point and removes guesswork from your programming. All testing is explained clearly in advance.

03

Structured, Individualised Programme

Your programme is built to a consistent session format so you always know what's coming. Exercises, cues, and progressions are selected with your sensory and learning preferences in mind. Change is introduced gradually and always discussed first.

04

Ongoing Review & Open Communication

We check in regularly on what's working and what isn't — including the environment itself. You're encouraged to give us feedback at any time, and we'll adjust accordingly. This is a two-way process, not a one-size-fits-all prescription.

What You Can Expect to Gain
